Overview
Templar is AION 2's main tank, and it still deals real damage. Its whole build rests on a "holy trinity" of skills taken to 20 as fast as possible —
Judgment,
Punishment and
Pummel — that you use as often as you can. Survivability is not what limits a Templar; damage is.
The build in one sentence
Shield skills trigger
Judgment: hold the macro — it opens with
Doom Shield, keeps Judgment going and fills the gaps with Pummel and its procs — charge
Punishment on cooldown, and block the big hits to keep
Fury on the party.
This guide follows SolAshur's global-launch Templar build (solashur.com, September 27) and his video walkthrough of it (September 29), re-checked against the video frames on September 30.
Patch Season 1. The build is checked against guides from the global servers: 4 stigmas, cap 20.
Overview
In PvP the Templar keeps the same holy trinity and the same Judgment loop; what changes is the stigmas.
Executing Blade gives you an edge in every duel, and
Annihilate at 20 turns into an AoE knockdown.
Melee gets kited — a strong weapon matters less when you can't reach the target, so play around your gap-closers and Doom Shield.
Dedicated PvP gear sets from KR/TW are not confirmed for global, so the PvX gear from the PvE tab is the plan. If PvP gear does appear: level your PvP stigmas first, and only then spend on a PvP weapon or armor.
Patch Season 1. The build is checked against guides from the global servers: 4 stigmas, cap 20.
Global Season 1: what changes
Global Season 1 has run on its own servers since October 5, 2026, and it differs from the Korean and Taiwanese servers many guides were made on. What that means for Templar:
- 4 stigma slots, the last at level 37. SolAshur's Taiwan loadouts had six; for global he drops two per profile (listed in Stigmas).
- Keep three skill presets — PvX, PvP and PvE — so switching content is one click.
- Collect Skill Point Shards early: they gate how fast the holy trinity reaches 20.
- Join a legion — solo Abyss farming is ineffective.
Skills
?Each skill card shows the specializations to take under its description; the dashed “20” chip is the pick for the third slot at skill level 20. “All specializations” lists every option. Thanks! The holy trinity goes to 20 first. Skills reach 10 from skill points, 14 with Daevanion, then rings and arcana push the trinity further. Specializations below are SolAshur's.

Pummel 20Filler and stagger. SolAshur's picks all go into Punishing Strike — it heals you and hits harder; he skips the −1s Punishment pick. Get it to 20 as soon as possible. trueeevil takes that −1s Punishment pick instead: Punishment comes back sooner — a fair swap for the HP absorb if you don't need the heal. Leonis takes it too: Punishment gives +20% PvE Damage Boost for 20s, and with the pick its cooldown drops under 20s, so the boost never falls off — about 22k → 26k DPS on his dummy test.- 8[Punishing Strike] absorbs 3% HP
- 8Deals up to 12% more damage when less targets are hit

Flash Rampage 12 16Only on Staggered targets; −1s to all cooldowns per hit. No longer in the PvE line: Leonis took it out as a straight DPS loss — Pummel fills the gaps better. Skip its Daevanion nodes too. The −1s pick needs level 16; at 12 take Multi-Hit and the MP restore.- 12Multi-Hit on hit

Passives
Thanks!| # | Passive | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | +PvE Damage Boost for you and the party after every block — the reason groups want a Templar. | |
| 2 | Critical Hit and an extra-damage proc on every hit; the Bell arcana rolls it. | |
| 3 | Enmity plus Attack on front attacks. | |
| 4 | Defense and Endurance — the core of the endurance stat build. On SolAshur's character (+6 levels) it gives +37% Defense and +16% Endurance. |
Gear path
Thanks! If you start on day one, this is the route:
- Holy Spirit set (
Holy Spirit Breastplate for Elyos, in Verteron and Eltnen; Asmodians get the same gear as the Spectral set —
Spectral Breastplate — in Altgard and Morheim. Elyos and Asmodian gear is identical, only the names differ; hover an item to compare the stats) — farm it in the lower Abyss (AP, pets and gold drops per kill, plus boss spawns) or anywhere in the open world. Aim for about 1,600 combat power. - Skip the first dungeon tier: Urugugu Canyon for the Aulamus Longsword (item level 76, attack 308–385, binds on pickup) and Vakron Sky Island for the Vakron Guard (item level 76) and the Vakron armor. Keep upgrading the Vakron pieces until Fire Temple is doable.
- Use Transcendence to get ready for Fire Temple — the Enraged Kromede Sword (item level 84, attack 340–425, extended range) — and Ferocious Horn (Nuakum armor). Nuakum is the safer farm: nearly every piece is an upgrade, while the weapon chest can drop other classes' weapons.
- End goal — PvE: White Dragon Lord sword, then the guard, then the accessories, with Nuakum armor (full White Dragon armor only adds PvE tolerance and is whale territory). PvX, the setup for most players: Enraged Kromede sword, White Dragon guard, Nuakum armor, White Dragon accessories.
Wings: Dark Veil early (attack bonus, damage boost), Talisra late — Attack 60, Defense 400, Accuracy 35 and 4% cooldown reduction. Stack cooldown reduction as early as you can: shorter shield-skill cooldowns mean more Judgment procs. Collect every other wing too — their "owned" effects and flight power help with Abyss farming.
Titles — which one to equip in each slot: After level 45 → Titles.
Stats, soul binds, pets
Thanks! Two stat builds, chosen by what the stats synergize with:
- A · Block + Evasion + Dexterity — early and mid game, against opponents without much Accuracy. Dexterity feeds both Block and Evasion. SolAshur's pick for launch.
- B · Block + Endurance + Ironclad Defense — late game: at 100% Endurance a hit deals 50% less damage.
| Slot | Unique line | Then |
|---|---|---|
| Weapon, guard | Combat Speed + Weapon Damage Boost | Might + Multi-Hit; Precision if under the accuracy cap |
| Helm | Incoming Healing | Attack, Might, Critical Hit, Precision |
| Shoulders | Critical Damage Boost | Attack, Might, Precision, Perfect Chance |
| Chest | Damage Boost | Attack, Might, Critical Hit, Constitution |
| Gloves | Combat Speed | Perfect Chance, Attack, Might, Multi-Hit |
| Legs | Perfect Chance | Damage Tolerance, Attack, Might, Constitution |
| Boots | Move Speed | Perfect Chance, Attack, Might, Dexterity |
| Cloak | Critical Damage Tolerance | Perfect Chance, Damage Tolerance, Attack |
| Rings / earrings / necklace | Rings: your top 4 active skills · Earrings: top 4 passives · Necklace: 2 actives + Attack, Critical Hit, Weapon Damage Boost | |
Pets (Genus Insight) — don't skip them; in a couple of weeks they are the difference between hitting and missing. Non-special insight gives Attack and Accuracy, special insight Attack and Damage Boost. Level the Genus to 10 as soon as you can for better values. Locking is your first big kinah sink: lock only the important stats that rolled their unique 50% maximum, never filler. Lock slots in this order: 4 → 7 → 2 and 8 → the rest (Attack, Accuracy, Critical Hit).
| Slot | Non-special insight | Special insight |
|---|---|---|
| 1, 4, 7 | Critical Hit, Accuracy, Block (or Evasion) | Max Attack, Attack Bonus |
| 2, 5, 8 | Max Attack, Attack Bonus | Max Attack, Attack Bonus |
| 3 | Damage Boost, Weapon Damage Boost, Double Chance or Perfect Chance | |
| 6 | Critical Hit, Accuracy, Damage Tolerance | Damage Tolerance, Weapon Damage Tolerance |
| 9 | Damage Boost, Weapon Damage Boost, Double Chance or Perfect Chance | Damage Boost or Perfect Chance |
Pantheon: Wisdom (Double Chance) first, Space (Block); then Illusion (cooldown reduction) for PvETime (attack speed) for PvP. Don't spend resources forcing portraits early — they unlock as you play.

Go for damage set effects over survivability — Templar's survivability is already enough.
Daevanion boards
Thanks!Daevanion takes your skills from 10 to 14 and adds stats. Each blue node gives +1 level to its skill.
- Priority: blue nodes for
Judgment,
Punishment,
Pummel, then
Shield Smite and
Annihilate; orange nodes next. - Skip: MP nodes (put the points into Attack),
Flash Rampage nodes, and the green Warding Shield / Guardian Shield nodes unless you have spare points. - No Ariel on global: there are five boards, and the level-45 one, Azphel, gives only PvP Damage Boost and Tolerance — in PvE finish the first four.
- Azphel (level 45) is all PvP Damage Boost and Tolerance — take it.
| Board | Unlock | Orange nodes |
|---|---|---|
| Nezekan | Lv 12 | Combat Speed, Cooldown Reduction |
| Zikel | Lv 20 | Damage Boost, Damage Tolerance |
| Vaizel | Lv 30 | Critical Damage Boost and Tolerance |
| Triniel | Lv 40 | Multi-Hit Chance and Resist |
| Azphel | Lv 45 | PvP Damage Boost and Tolerance — no skill nodes |

- Hotbar line — several skills stacked on one hotbar button. Pressing it casts the highest-priority skill that's ready, and in AION 2 the bottom slot has the highest priority. The cards show each line top to bottom as in the game.
- In-game macro — while you hold its key, it presses your hotbar lines in order and cancels animation tails. Skills on cooldown are skipped.
Leonis' global setup (video of Oct 5, frame 0:57): two hotbar lines that the in-game macro presses, the rest by hand. Doom Shield now opens the macro; he says the updated setup gives about 20% more damage.

Doom Shield
In-game order, top to bottom. 1 = highest priority — the bottom slot.
The macro's first step.
Doom Shield opens the fight — a rush and a guaranteed knockdown on NPCs that unlocks
Annihilate — and at level 15 it resets on a kill, the key to PvX and pet farming. Between casts the line spams Judgment and the shield skills that trigger it.

The macro's second step. Procs fire as soon as they light up; Pummel fills every gap — and with the −1s Punishment pick each Pummel brings Punishment back sooner.
Flash Rampage is out: in Leonis' test the line does more damage without it. SolAshur puts Annihilate first.

SolAshur's version, outside the macro: Judgment always wins and Doom Shield comes last. He binds it to R and has his mouse repeat R about 10 times a second.

SolAshur covers his full hotkey setup in an earlier macro video; you will need to change a few in-game key bindings to match.
